7-Day vs 14-Day Sri Lanka Itinerary: Which Should You Choose?

The two most common trip lengths we plan are 7 days and 14 days. Both work well with a private driver, but they cover very different amounts of ground. Here’s how to decide which fits your trip.

7 days: the highlights, without the rush

A week is enough to see Sri Lanka’s best-known sights without feeling like you’re constantly packing the car. Our 7 day Sri Lanka tour covers the cultural triangle at Sigiriya, the hill country around Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella, a safari at Yala, and the coast at Galle and Bentota.

This length suits a first visit if your time is limited, a stopover on a longer trip through Asia, or a shorter holiday alongside other travel. Expect one or two hotel changes every couple of days, with a fuller schedule each day than a two-week trip allows.

14 days: the fuller picture

Two weeks lets you add the places a 7 day trip has to skip. Our 14 day Sri Lanka tour covers the same core route plus more of the north and east — Anuradhapura and Trincomalee, for instance — and gives you more time at each stop rather than more stops packed tighter together.

This length is a better fit if you want a proper beach stretch as well as the cultural and hill-country sights, if you’re travelling from further away and want to make the long flight worthwhile, or if you’d simply rather move at a slower pace with fewer early starts.

Side by side

  • Pace: 7 days moves faster, with less downtime between stops. 14 days allows a rest day or two.
  • Coverage: 7 days is the classic west-coast-to-hill-country loop. 14 days can add the north, the east coast, or extra time on a single beach.
  • Cost: a 14 day trip costs more in total (more nights, more driving days), though the daily cost is often similar.
  • Best for: 7 days suits a first look or a shorter holiday; 14 days suits a main annual trip or a first visit combined with the Maldives.

Somewhere in between, or longer

Not every trip fits neatly into a week or two. We also build 10 day and 4 day itineraries, and longer combined trips such as our 21 day Ayurveda retreat tour. Since every route is planned around your own dates with a private driver, the itinerary can be adjusted to whatever length actually suits you, rather than picking the nearest fixed package.

Still deciding?

Send us your travel dates and roughly how many days you have, and we’ll suggest a route rather than asking you to choose blind between the two.
